Q: What's the first thing you need to know in order to teach a dog a new trick?

A: More than the dog!

I've found that I've always learned more about a subject when I've attempted to share it with others. Invariably, by writing it down and documenting what I know, or thought I knew, there is always more to learn about it.

In the style of Obeone Kenobe, I say: "learning leads to understanding, understanding leads to knowing, knowing leads to sharing". I call this, the circle of information.

Circle of Information

It all circles around information. Without appropriate and accurate information, knowledge is flawed. A study of the information provides an opportunity for learning, and an eventual understanding of the subject matter. With an understanding, further clarification (questioning, testing, verification) leads to knowledge about the subject matter. From this base of knowledge, the potential to share the information provides the opportunity for further learning. And around we go again, around and around, continually learning—understanding—knowing—sharing.
