Creating dynamic text effects—Autumn (Fall)

Creating dynamic text effects can be fun and a learning
experience at the same time. The idea is to have the textual
content (of the page) break-up into individual characters which
then can behave independently of their original groupings of
structured words, sentences and paragraphs.
In this particular project, I've applied the basic principles of
Autumn (Fall) to have the text characters behave like falling
leaves of a deciduous tree. Let's first consider the
requirements for such a project.
Requirements
- The text characters are to behave like the leaves of a
deciduous tree in Autumn (Fall), where they individually go
brown, detach, fall down, and wither, decompose and return to
the earth.
- Each individual character should behave like an individual
leaf, independent of all the other leaves.
- External natural forces such as wind, sun, rain, snow,
etcetera may optionally be applied, and must be catered for in
the design and implementation of the project.
- The scripting language is to be standard client-side
JavaScript, and not require the download and installation of
plug-ins or add-ons to the client browser.
- The viewing media is to be platform-independent PC-based
(not handheld) web browsers, not proprietary, although the
ability to port the project to handheld-based browsers is not
excluded.
These requirements are the minimum necessary to achieve the
project goals.
